Apart from a detector's ability to compensate non-cooperative soil, the “maximum detection range” is the most important performance parameter. The detection ranges stated by producers or suppliers frequently describe detection features which raise legal questions about detector performance and whether the relevant specifications are too unspecific or exaggerated. In these cases, clients are mislead, especially if they only compare the product description without comparing performances in practice.
